New lollipop lady Trish is following in father’s footsteps

THIS is the new lollipop lady at Cockermouth’s Fairfield Infant and Junior schools.

Trish Hayton, 41, of Brigham Road, will be guiding parents and children across the busy road at Gallowbarrow in the mornings and afternoons.

Parents were worried when a former lollipop man left in January and the school had no applicants after advertising the post.

But Trish came to the rescue and she has been in the position now for two weeks.

Trish is no stranger to the life of a lollipop lady, as her father Kenneth was lollipop man for the Fairfield schools 15 years ago.

But Trish said that was not the reason she took the job.

She said: “I took the job because I thought I would really enjoy it and I do. The parents are saying it is a really good thing and they are well pleased that I am here.”

Trish used to be a site supervisor at the North West Parachute Centre near Grange-Over-Sands and still goes skydiving there at weekends.
