New deputy head named

COCKERMOUTH School has appointed a new deputy headteacher. Rosie Luchini, who lives in the town, has been a teacher at the school for 11 years but now steps up to assist Stuart Reeves.

She was formerly assistant head and teaches English.

Mrs Luchini also has specific responsibilities in school for children with special needs.

She also heads up West Cumbria’s learning support and autistic unit, which is based in the secondary school.

“I’m thrilled about the appointment,” said Mrs Luchini, who takes up the role with immediate effect.

“This is a good school and it is important to build on the reputation and success of the school, which plays such an important part in the community.”

Former deputy head Mr Reeves was appointed to the top job earlier this year after the death of Mike Wilde last August.

Mr Wilde had been headteacher at the Castlegate Drive school for 11 years before losing a four-year battle with cancer.

In 2006, Mr Wilde was named Regional Headteacher of the Year at the national teaching awards.
