A COCKERMOUTH teenager has been chosen from 4,000 people to attend a course at London’s National Youth Theatre.
Joe Roper, 15, of Simonscales Lane, will take his place on the summer course for twelve days in August.
In January, Joe attended an audition with 4,000 other hopefuls but only 300 got a place on the course.
The Cockermouth School student said: “It is amazing. The day I got the letter telling me I was accepted, I was really excited. I have tried for two years running.
“This is a big step towards the career path that I want to choose. It is really good news.”
Joe studies GCSE drama at school and recently appeared in the school’s High School Musical performance.
Joe said: “Just being on stage is the most amazing feeling. For me it is like footballers scoring a goal.
“It is the buzz you get and bonding with the cast. It is great, I love it.”
Joe is sitting his GCSEs and next year will study performing arts, art and physics at A-level.
He wants to go to drama school and then move to London to pursue his acting career.
Joe now needs to raise the money to attend the course and has been to various organisations in the town asking for contributions.
He is also fund-raising himself and has completed a sponsored silence at school.
