Films, fantasy and futuristic was the theme at Lakes College’s annual hair competition.
Around 30 trainees on courses, from apprentices to level three NVQ students, took part in the challenge.
This year’s competition saw a change in the line-up with new categories for films and movies, and futuristic and fantasy.
Hair students Laura Douglas, 18, of Main Street, Dearham, and Beth Thomlinson, 19, of Main Road, High Harrington, organised the competition as part of their level three qualification.
Isaac Moore, 20, of Blindcrake, picked up third prize in the film and movies section for his Casino Royale-inspired design.
Isaac, a trainee on a hairdressing apprenticeship, said: “James Bond’s Casino Royale film inspired me to go for the glamorous look with exploding diamonds on my model’s face and neck.”
The contest was judged by professional hairdressers Diane Templeton, of Cleator Moor, and Hazel Waddington, of Hensingham.
Level two student Abbie Lord, 19, of Salterbeck Road, Workington, created an Avatar-themed design.
She said: “I’m really pleased at how effective it looks.”
Irene Farragher, course leader for work-based learning, said entrants excelled themselves.
She added: “This is an excellent opportunity for our students to experience a time-constrained hairdressing challenge that really tests their skills and imagination.”
