The new headteacher of Seaton Junior School has returned to the town where she grew up.

Amanda Dickinson started her new role on Monday.

She is back in her hometown of Workington after 26 years away.

She replaces Mike Kidd after he stepped down as acting headteacher in December.

Mrs Dickinson grew up in Elterwater Avenue and later lived at Harrington.

She did a BEd English degree at Lancaster University when she was 18 and has been in education for the last 22 years, working at schools in Lancashire.

Her last role was as headteacher of Egerton Primary School, Bolton, which was graded as “outstanding” by Ofsted in 2011.

Mrs Dickinson said she was pleased with her start.

She said: “It’s been fantastic. The children have been all smiles and the staff have been brilliant.

“I am impressed with the community spirit in Seaton.

“An important part of my work is to develop that rapport with the community.

“I am really excited, it is a new beginning.”

She has strong ties with Seaton as both her mother and sister live in the village.

She has moved into a home in Cockermouth with her husband Tim and two daughters.

Both her daughters have also been enrolled at Seaton Junior School.
