Please park safely, say pupils

Seaton pupils have joined the call to stop parents parking dangerously outside the gates of their village school.
Drivers who park on double yellow lines and zigzags will soon be targeted by police and Allerdale council, which enforces parking in the area.
The joint initiative was launched after dozens of complaints that bad parking was putting children’s lives at risk.
Cumbria police asked pupils at Seaton Academy to design banners asking drivers to park safely.
The infant school and the police have both previously sent letters to parents about the problem and asked them to park in the nearby Seaton Rangers rugby club.
Seaton PCSO Hannah Donaughee, who came up with the idea of a banner competition, said: “We can appreciate at times it is difficult parking near to a school, especially if the weather is bad or parents are running late, but the safety of the children is paramount.
“We hope drivers will support this campaign and take notice of the children’s requests.”
The two winning banners will be hung on the school gates.
Winners were Gracie Nixon, six, and Maddi Hunter, seven, Lily Carter, seven, and Elden Taylor, six.
Seaton Parish Council provided funding for the banners and Tesco in Workington donated prizes for pupils who took part.
Debbie Midwood, year two teacher, said: “The idea is to try to keep everyone safe and so everyone can see clearly when they are crossing the road.
“The children understood that the competition was about trying to keep them safe.”

Have your say
I am a parent with children at Seaton Academy and I agree this is a problem at almost every school in the area, but only last week I was almost ran over by a parent who mounted the pavement to collect their child, and she was NOT running late and wasn't even phased by her actions.
All schools and the police seem to constantly be addressing this problem, it's the parents who are to blame and these are the parents who will be shouting when a accident occurs or act badly done to when issued with a fine.
I commend the staff and the police for taking these steps to ensure the safety of our children.
It is no just SEATON school the main problem is parents parking and dropping children off. Why is the POLICE not doing anything about this breach of law . They swore an oath to uphold the law of the land and breach of that is a breach of law.
