Tally ho! Boxing Day hunts

Hunt supporters turned out in force to uphold a centuries-old Boxing Day tradition in West Cumbria.
About 100 people watched or took part in the Melbreak Foxhounds’ hunt on Wednesday.
The drizzly weather did not put people off, according to hunt master John Vickers.
He said: “It was a great event with a lovely friendly atmosphere. The conditions proved difficult due to the weather but everyone had a great time.
“It was nice to see young and old turn out on the day and everyone enjoyed a supper and get together afterwards.”
The course, which set off from Lorton, took in around 15 miles of countryside.
The Blencathra Hunt was also out on Boxing Day and dozens of people lined the streets as the party set off from the Queen’s Hotel, in Market Square, Keswick.
A ban on hunting with hounds was introduced in 2005.
The hounds now follow a scent rather than chase a fox, a method known as drag hunting.
The Government is committed to holding a free vote in Parliament on repealing the ban.
It is unlikely to come in the next 12 months, however.

Chasing a fox no doubt...Haven't these lot got anything better to do.. Keep this barbaric nonsense to the fields, not disrupting traffic on the main roadsView all 3 comments on this article

Have your say
@Dave - "Let us hope that the ban on Hunting is very soon lifted"
Indeed, and whilst we're at it, how about bringing back bear bating and cock fights?Don't you just hate those squeamish types who can't appreciate the sheer joy of watching animals suffer and die horrible deaths? Killjoys!
