Patients have praised a ward at Whitehaven's West Cumberland Hospital for its standards of care, cleanliness and compassion.
The Skiddaw 2 orthopaedic surgical ward received 10 out of 10 in all categories in a patient experience survey carried out by the North Cumbria University Hospital’s Trust for the fourth time this year.
Members of the trust’s patient experience team interviewed patients and the results were fed back to the clinical teams within 24-48 hours, allowing the trust to act on patient feedback while still in hospital.
The survey found 100 per cent of patients questioned would be highly likely or likely to recommend the ward to their friends and family.
It also won the top score in areas including cleanliness, staffing, pain control, noise at night, co-ordination, respect, dignity, kindness and compassion.
Robin Evans, ward manager for the orthopaedic unit at West Cumberland Hospital, said: “Our team includes nurses, consultants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacy staff, student nurses and physiotherapists, as well as a dedicated orthopaedic nurse practitioner – and we all work together to make sure our patients have a really positive experience."
