Winter pyjamas may be in short supply this year as Maryport goes for a world record.

Save Our Beds campaigners are hoping to get into the Guinness World Records for the largest group of people wearing pyjamas.

It is tentatively planned to hold the event on Friday, December 9, before schools close for the holidays.

Ewanrigg Local Trust development officer Kate Whitmarsh said the event would have to be held in December because of the lead-in time required by Guinness World Records.

“We are hoping everyone will be wrapped up warmly,” she said.

“It might be best to get some winter pyjamas as soon as possible as we will need more than 1,800 people to beat the record!”

Kate said she will be appealing to the general public, schools and employers to encourage people to take part.

“We want to do something positive and fun, but still get the message across that Maryport and district will not allow beds to be removed from our hospital without a fight.

"Full details of the event will be announced once everything is confirmed with the record keepers,” she said.
