Maryport's hospital campaign is going on the road.

The Save Our Beds group agreed on Wednesday night to hold next week’s meeting in Flimby.

Chairman Bill Barnes said campaigners felt it was paramount to ensure that all those affected by the proposed removal of beds from Maryport hospital be kept informed.

He said: “We hope to hold future meetings in Dearham and Crosby and will have a table at the Broughton Moor Queen’s Birthday gala day next Saturday.”

Mr Barnes said he hoped that villagers as well as Maryport people would turn out in force for the protest march being held on June 18.

People will meet outside Ewanrigg Community Centre at 9am and will walk past the hospital, up Curzon Street and to the Wave Centre.

Mr Barnes said: “It is a fairly long walk but we want to make sure as many people as possible know what is happening.

“People can join the march along the way and if there are those who simply can’t do it, they could meet us at the Wave where we would like to see hundreds gathered.”

The Flimby meeting will be held in Flimby Community Centre, the former Methodist chapel, on West Lane at 7pm next Wednesday.
