A Save Our Beds campaign meeting will be held in Crosby on Wednesday, July 27.

The meeting had been planned for this week but coincided with the funeral service for Green campaigner and Crosscanonby Parish Council chairman Geoff Smith, who died last week.

SOB has been taking its campaign on the road to ensure that villages surrounding Maryport have their chance to join the protest over proposals to remove beds from the local hospital.

The group has so far met in Dearham and Flimby and held weekly meetings in Maryport. The decision has now been made to change these to fortnightly.

Chairman Bill Barnes said: “We have met every week for the past 10 weeks. The continued turnout has been fantastic.

“We feel now, though, that most of our strategy is in place so we will just meet every two weeks.

“The next big event will be the visit of Sir Neil McKay.”

The meeting will be held in the Crosscanonby Community Centre at 7pm.
