Maryport woman Linda Radcliffe has been appointed as an NHS governor.

She is one of two voluntary governors on the Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, with serving governor, Linda Vance, of Cockermouth.

Mrs Radcliffe, who is also town mayor, was inducted as a governor on Tuesday.

As a practice manager for a doctors' surgery in Aspatria for many years, Mrs Radcliffe was involved in decision making for the NHS in Cumbria.

“So when I was asked if I would consider standing as a governor I felt it was something I should do because it is something about which I am passionate.”

Governors are appointed for  three years to represent the views of local people and work with the trust's board of directors, advising them on issues such as priorities for forward planning.

They have the responsibility of holding non-executive directors to account, representing the interests of members of the trust as a whole and the interests of members of the public and the appointment and removal of the chairman and other non-executive directors.
