We want answers. More than 10 years ago, health bosses wanted to close our community hospitals under the Closer to Home proposals.

Thanks to the work of our MPs, £18 million was secured from the nuclear industry to stop that happening.

Since then, our community hospitals have gone from strength to strength.

Yet, today we face almost the same issue as Closer to Home as the NHS grapples with its failing finances.

It wants to turn them into care centres, with round-the-clock care transferred to patients’ homes.

What exactly has changed?

That is why we are proud to join forces with Maryport hospital’s League of Friends, Ewanrigg and Netherton Tenants’ and Residents’ Association and Ewanrigg Local Trust to launch a campaign to stop beds being removed from Maryport.

All community hospitals are under review by the Success Regime but Maryport townsfolk are, so far, feeling the hurt the most.

The league of friends say removing the hospital beds will be like ripping the heart out of the town.

They may not be firm proposals, but they are enough to cause uncertainty.

two months ago, the Joint League of Friends asked 32 questions about cottage hospitals and the Success Regime. Members say they are still waiting for an answer.

That is why we have submitted 10 questions to the Success Regime this week.

These are the answers people want and need to know.

If the review is truly to be a success, we urge health bosses to reply.

The clock is ticking, Success Regime.
