Greysouthen Parish Council has bought two public-access defibrillators for its community.

One defibrillator has been placed at Greysouthen Village Hall, while the other is at the park office in Nepgill Park, Bridgefoot. It means the two most populated areas in the parish are within minutes of a machine, which can help restart a casualty's heart following a cardiac arrest.

Each unit is accessed by a code obtained from the ambulance service. The defibrillator is then removed from its housing and taken to the casualty.

The machines can be used by anyone and give audible instructions to talk people through the resuscitation process.

Councillor Gwyn Lloyd, parish council chairman, said: "It was decided after another parish had one and we thought that it would be a good idea if we did too.

"I think its an excellent idea. Our parish has a mixed population and having two defibrillators really is great."

The parish aims that every household in the area has easy access to information about defibrillators and how to perform CPR in an emergency situation.

An information session will be held on September 6 at 7pm at Greysouthen Village Hall, for residents that wish to learn CPR. The Community Heartbeat Trust, which provided the units, will lead the session.
