Workington MP Sue Hayman says she will be fighting to retain all beds at Maryport hospital.
Mrs Hayman is meeting Ewanrigg Local Trust members in Maryport today and will be discussing the ongoing hospital campaign with them.
She met with Success Regime chairman Sir Neil McKay last week to talk about proposals for community hospitals.
She said: “It was obviously in his mind that the number of beds in Workington and Cockermouth could be increased and Maryport and Wigton bed numbers reduced or removed.
“In the worst case scenario, I would want at least palliative care beds kept here so that terminally ill people can be looked after in their own community.”
She added people in her constituency were concered about the potential loss of all beds at community hospitals.
She reiterated that she would continue to fight for all services and for the retention of all beds in community hospitals.
