A Workington surgery has been rated “good” but told its medicine management is not fully satisfactory by Government inspectors.

Orchard House Surgery, in South William Street, was inspected last month.

The practice was rated “good” for providing effective, caring, responsive and well-led services.

Care was planned and delivered in line with current legislation and data showed patient outcomes were in line with national averages.

Inspectors spoke with seven patients who said they were satisfied with their care and their dignity and privacy was respected.

They also said they felt involved in decisions about their care and treatment.

The practice was said to have good facilities and was well equipped to treat patients.

But Care Quality Commission inspectors found arrangements for managing medicines, including emergency drugs and vaccinations, were not fully satisfactory.

The surgery must now send the CQC a report explaining what action will be taken to meet requirements.

The report said some medicines needed to be stored in a refrigerator and procedure was to check the temperature every day.

But records from a refrigerator were incomplete and temperatures had not been checked daily.

The surgery was unavailable for comment.
