Brides shape up for their big day at Armathwaite boot camp

It was an opportunity too good to miss – as Armathwaite Hall Country House Hotel and Spa, near Bassenthwaite, launched its brides boot camp, two Times & Star reporters Sarah Nicholls and Clare Kinrade announced their respective engagements.
Sarah, 26, and her partner Gary, and Clare, 27, whose fiance is the Times & Star’s chief sports writer John Fuller, are due to get married next year.
They were given the task of completing the spa’s fitness regime over the next six weeks.
Like brides everywhere, they want to look and feel their absolute best for the biggest day of their lives.
They started their task on Tuesday and spent time with personal trainer John Rothery, who put them through their paces in the gym and exercise studio.
Designed by the hotel, the boot camp brides package includes a fitness and diet plan with set goals and one-to-one guidance, advice and motivation.
Sarah and Clare will spend six one-hour training sessions with John and have body measurement checks and weekly weigh-ins.
John, who has worked at The Spa for the last 18 months, said: “I’ll be working with them to sort a personalised home and gym-based training programme.
“They will get top nutritional advice and feedback based on a food diary I have asked them to keep.
“I’ll be keeping an eye on them by giving them support and motivational calls and emails.”
During their first session, the girls were put to work on the treadmills.
They were also given a ‘wellness assessment’ which saw John record health statistics through a Bodystat body composition test.
He attached electrodes to hands and feet which measured body fat percentage and metabolic rate.
Their height, weight, waist and hip measurements were also taken.
John said the programme could also be adapted for grooms-to-be.
Sarah and Clare will be writing a blog about their challenge over the coming weeks. See it here
