Exploring the rich art, culture and history of Barcelona has been a group of Lakes College students.

The group of art, photography and graphic design students, chose to visit the city for their enrichment trip.

While they were there, the group undertook primary research which counted towards their studies.

Kirsty Gaunt, level 3 course leader, said: "It was really good to see on this particular trip was how enthusiastic and positive the students were. There was a real team spirit within the whole of the group which are all excellent qualities for the students to take forward when working in the creative industries."

During the five day trip, the group visited numerous galleries, including the Fundació Joan Miró, Centre d'Estudis d'Art Contemporani, and had guided tours of the Sagrada Familia, and the Arc de Triomf.

Heidi Birschel, 17, a level 3 art and design student, from Whitehaven, said: "It was very interesting to see all of the architecture and culture and it’s something that I can take forward into my own art work."

Among the group was Jamie Lee Best, 19, Beckie Benson, 19, and Poppy Balmer, 18, all level 3 photography students, from Workington and Cockermouth. They said what they have learnt on the trip will influence their own work and it was really useful to research other people's work.

Principal Chris Nattress said: "As a college, we encourage all our students to participate on enrichment trips, as they gain valuable transferable skills that will help them both on their courses and in employment. It is also a great experience for our students to travel abroad and learn about different cultures, all of which is part of life at Lakes College."
