Pupils at Dearham Primary School are benefiting from new playground equipment thanks to the fundraising efforts of a group of parents.

Friends of Dearham School have held events including coffee mornings, summer fairs, a disco and movie nights to raise about £15,000 for the equipment.

It replaces old playground equipment that was removed about two years ago due to building work.

The group has been raising money since then.

The money has been used to buy outdoor wooden play equipment including a scramble net climbing frame.

Deborah Bailiff, of the group, said: “The children were saying that their playtime was getting a bit boring so that’s why we thought it would be nice for them to have something to play on during their playtime.

“It just shows that we have a really good community spirit and it makes our job easier when we’re fundraising.

“It’s a shame that so many children have moved on since we started the project but there will be many who will appreciate the play equipment.”

The friends group has been going for about 10 years and also support a charity every academic year.

The group meets every term to come up with activities to raise money to cover the cost of trips, transport and equipment.

It is looking for new members. People who want to join can contact the school on 01900 812518.
