Maryport's Netherhall School has won a Good Schools Guide award for history.
The award was for girls taking history at AS level last year and recognised excellence of teaching and the ability to give a subject “the wow factor.”
The Good Schools Guide recognised Netherhall for out-performing all other English schools in its category.
The award was based on a series of calculations taking into account relative popularity and performance of a subject, absolute performance and percentage of pupils taking the subject.
The Good Schools Guide is the largest independent guide to UK schools.
Jonathan Johnson, headteacher, said, “Once again our hard-working, professional staff have demonstrated that we are considerably better than we are given credit for."
Mark Bailey, head of History, added "It has been a real pleasure to have worked with such a talented group of students over the last seven years. They have been great company in class and are a credit to themselves, their families and our school. I am immensely proud of their achievements and wish them all the very best for the future."
