Being manipulated is sometimes fun, as little “human puppets” discovered at Netherton Infant School in Maryport this week.

The school is holding its fourth annual story week with each afternoon being dedicated to storytelling and activities around stories.

The theme is puppets. Children and their families made puppet theatres out of cardboard boxes, performed shows and became puppets themselves, all under the leadership of professional storyteller Ian Douglas.

Headteacher Lynn Millington said story week had become an important part of the school year.

She added: “We get children and their families involved in the stories and have them working together.

“We invite parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles – whoever can come and they spend this time together. It is a lovely week.”
