Sixth formers at Netherhall School in Maryport have served up a double portion of charity for causes both local and national.

Year 12 students Emma Simmons, Melissa Lewis-Gress and Chloe Steele took part in Hospice at Home West Cumbria's 30 for 30 challenge.

The project, marking the charity's 30th anniversary, saw them given £30 to use to raise as much money as they could.

The trio organised events including a duck race, cake sale and art exhibition, raising £523.81.

Deputy headteacher Mark Bailey said: "The pupils are a great credit to themselves, their families and our school and should be immensely proud of themselves."

Following the success of the hospice fundraising, fellow year 12 students Dora Crossland, Leah McArdle and Lauren Pape organised a non-uniform day in aid of the Bradley Lowery Foundation.

Pupils supported the event by wearing football shirts and raised £424.97.

Mr Bailey said: "Our thanks go out to our brilliant students for supporting the day and to the year 12 ladies for organising the event so effectively."
