BROUGHTON Moor Primary School has a new headteacher.

Paul Brotherhood, 38, took over the reins of the village school, near Maryport, and said a headteacher's role was to find a child's trigger point that made them want to come to school.

It is his first headship and he said even so early into the job he is enjoying it.

He said: "I still get to teach in the mornings and since teaching is my passion I am really enjoying that.

"The staff are supportive and keen and, in a small school like this, we have more time to give the children personalised learning opportunities."

Mr Brotherhood's family comes from the Midlands although he lived in Yorkshire before coming to Cumbria to train. He has been teaching for 15 years.

Mr Brotherhood previously taught in Carlisle and Penrith.

He said: "I tend to stay in jobs where I am settled. I hope to be here for some time."

He lives in Cockermouth with wife, Claire, and their daughter, Molly, seven.

His wife is a volunteer with Unity, the drink and drug rehabilitation charity, and also runs a local Slimming World club.
