Declan Thompson and Kimberley Scott have been appointed as head pupils of Maryport’s Netherhall School.

The year 12 students were nominated by their peers before a vote was held to determine which candidates would progress to the interview stage.

They then faced interviews with headteacher David Tromans and head of sixth form Rob Phizacklea last Friday.

Declan, 17, is studying maths, physics, history and IT and said he was looking forward to being more involved with the running of the sixth form.

He said: "I'm chuffed, it was nice that my fellow students decided to vote for me."

Kimberley, also 17, is studying history, RE, health and social care and English.

She added: "I'm really happy about it, I'd like to be a role model to students throughout the school."

Reagan Graham and Kaylen Forsyth were named deputy head boy and deputy head girl.

Mr Tromans said the quartet, who will take up their new roles in September, were extremely confident and capable.

He said: "They want to make a difference to the future of the school in a positive way.

"We'll be making demands of them that will give them opportunities and enrich their experiences."

He added that he had already made Maryport mayor Linda Radcliffe aware of the appointments so she could involve the youngsters with civic events.
