Julia Fish is the new headteacher at Bridekirk Dovenby School.
Mrs Fish, 45, lives in Dearham and has taught for 20 years. She has three sons and a daughter, aged from 12 to 19.
She previously worked at St Patrick's Primary School, in Cleator Moor, for nine years.
"I'm excited and a bit daunted," said Mrs Fish.
"I'm very proud to be given the responsibility in such a beautiful place at a school with such great reputation, and to follow on from Helen Tinnion, who was headteacher for 20 years.
"It's my role to carry on her success and continue to make progress."
