Children learned to make pizza at Kid's Cooking sessions at Ewanrigg and Netherton Community Centre today.

The sessions, on Mondays during the summer holidays from 1pm to 3pm, teach children how to cook their own food and encourage children to try new flavours.

Bill Barnes, chairman of Ewanrigg and Netherton Tenants’ and Residents’ Association, which runs the centre, said: "It's good for the children to learn what's in the food and how it's cooked.

"We do different dishes every week, from salads to cakes. There's not many parents who can make their own pastry nowadays.

"Here the children taste food that they would have never dreamed of eating before."

The sessions started around four years ago and children aged between seven and 13 attend to have fun while learning.

Tilly Joy, nine, of Ewanrigg, said: "I like it because we make something different every week and we learn new things.

"I like cooking and I can make the same dishes at home for my parents."

The sessions are free to attend.
