St Mary's Primary School in Workington has joined forces with Workington Academy to make a giant mural using clay tiles.
Pupils at St Mary’s designed tiles with themes including the local area and the Olympic Games during an art day.
They decided to create the mural to brighten up the outside of the school.
Each of the school’s 156 children created a design in a clay tile.
The tiles were then taken away by the academy pupils to be fired and finished.
The mural will be put up later in the year.
Staff and pupils from the academy helped out during the tiling session.
Jane Summerson, senior teacher and arts co-ordinator at St Mary’s, said: “We wanted something permanent. I discussed with teachers and staff and we decided a mural would be the most visually appealing thing to brighten up our outside.
“We’ll be really pleased when it’s done and we’re ready to unveil it to parents.
“Children will be excited to see their artwork on the wall.
“We’re pleased to be able to build relationships with feeder schools and it’s nice to have their expertise.”
Other activities during the art day included hammer beading, puppet making and jewellery making.
