A careers day was held for year 11 pupils at Cockermouth School this week.
A range of companies took part in the World of Work Day, held in the eco centre.
There were talks about team building, the labour market and higher education.
Pupils also took part in a speed dating exercise in which they spent a few minutes with representatives from lots of local businesses, quizzing them about their work.
Companies involved included Cavendish Nuclear, James Walker, the Trout Hotel, Atkins Global, Capita, React Engineering, Morgan Sindall, Allerdale Borough Council, Western Lakes Teaching School Alliance, Sellafield, Gen2, the army, United Utilities, Milburn Solicitors and Gibbons & Co accountants.
