Pupils from a West Cumbrian school will open a pop-up shop in Workington today to raise money for a hospital ward many of them and their friends have used.

The 10 key stage two pupils at Mayfield School in Whitehaven are taking part in the Bright Stars competition, which sees schools given £50 to set up an enterprise and raise as much money as possible for charity.

They have made teacup candles and keyrings to sell and will hold a tombola.

The shop, on Campbell Savours Way, will be open from 10am and mascots from Imagination Parties will be there from 11am to 12.30pm.

The children will return to school at 2pm but, stock depending, the shop could remain open later.

Pupils have already raised £175 by holding a pyjama day at school.

All money raised will go to the children's ward at the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.
