Twenty-five youngsters from St Michael's School in Bothel stepped back in time and onto a train for a grand day out with a World War Two theme.
The junior pupils from have been reading Goodnight, Mr Tom, which is about a boy who is evacuated during the war.
They all dressed in wartime clothes with homemade gas mask holders round their necks and took a train from Aspatria to Whitehaven.
Headteacher Andy May said: "We were met by an air raid warden and walked along by the harbour to The Beacon, where we took part in a World War II workshop.
"It was one of the best days out we have had. The children all really made an effort to dress up and it was the first time the school has used a train which was really exciting."
The warden was The Beacon's development manager Alan Irwin.
Mr May said: "The experience at The Beacon was great. Alan was so good with the children. There were real things which the kids could handle, they had a great time."
