Children in the Maryport district held their own special Remembrance service this morning.

It was the climax of two years of learning about the events of World War One.

Maryport Extended Schools Partnership, which includes all town schools, and those in Flimby, Dearham, Crosby and Richmond Hill School in Aspatria, has run the year-long project.

It has included learning about the war, visiting the military museum in Carlisle, making a film and learning and writing poetry.

Yesterday the children held an afternoon tea for invited guests which show the film, some of the poems and the poppy-based crafts they have made.

Today the children will gather at St Mary’s Church in Maryport for a Remembrance service led by Church of England lay reader and Maryport mayor Linda Radcliffe.
