A girl aged eight has won £500 for her school after winning a drawing competition run by Tesco in Workington.

The store invited primary school pupils to design a poster with a road safety theme.

Anna Truong, of Victoria Junior School, drew the winning design, which has been printed on limited-edition hessian bags.

The bags are available in store.

As well as the £500, Anna won 60 hi-vis jackets for her school and a £25 giftcard for herself.

Store manager Leanne O’Connor said: "We have received hundreds of outstanding entries and it was great to see the pupil’s different depictions of road safety. However, it was Anna’s design that really stood out for us.

"It looks fantastic on the hessian bags and we are sure customers will love them. We would all like to congratulate Anna and I hope she enjoys spending her giftcard."

Headteacher Pauline Robertson said: "Our pupils really enjoyed taking part in the Tesco drawing competition and we are all very proud of Anna. The hessian bags look amazing and are the perfect keepsake for Anna to remember her achievement.

"We would like to thank Tesco for inviting us to take part and for the £500 donation."
