Green-fingered youngsters at a Maryport school have been learning about healthy eating by maintaining a vegetable garden.

Children at Ewanrigg Junior School have grown vegetables and tended to the garden during break times, with their produce being used in cookery lessons and on the school salad bar.

Teaching assistant Dawn Wallace said: “We’re trying to show where vegetables are coming from and how they go from the ground to the plate. Even just weeding and watering the garden every day has got them excited which is good to see.”
