A proud headteacher has written to the Prime Minister after his students’ music video clocked up thousands of hits online.

Simon Jackson is so pleased with efforts by the Keswick School youngsters that he has sent a link to the film to both David Cameron and Education Secretary Nicky Morgan.

The school hosted its end of year iPerform festival of performing arts, encouraging pupils to take to the stage and build their confidence.

Two years ago the school performed a lipdub – a film combining lip syncing and audio dubbing to make a music video – and decided to build on that success, with one that was even bigger and better.

Students took it one step further, however, and, instead of performing a top 40 hit, they wrote and composed the words and music themselves before filming it in a day.

Filming started in the morning with different groups of pupils and staff performing sections of the song before the finale in the afternoon, in which pupils and staff went out onto the field to spell out the school name.

This was filmed by photographer Rob Grange using a drone.

Mr Jackson explained: “The song and music were entirely created by students in the music department and reflect the local Cumbrian landscape, and we believe the video really captures the spirit of our school.

“Students and staff erupted into spontaneous cheers and applause when they saw the video for the first time on Friday.

It is an example of the creativity, optimism and enjoyment in our school community.

“It’s a happy and inspiring place and this reflects Cumbria more widely.”

The video was uploaded to the school website and to Youtube and was viewed more than 5,700 times.

Mr Jackson added: “We’re incredibly proud of the video and the sentiment it conveys. In response to some amazing local feedback I’ve written to David Cameron and Nicky Morgan over the weekend to make them aware of the inspired creativity our young people are capable of.”
