Carlisle Racecourse is preparing to welcome more than 200 guests tonight, where the winners of the 2016 Golden Apple awards will be revealed.
The eagerly anticipated evening will look to reward heroes across Cumbria's education, training and skills sectors.
Students and trainees will be honoured for their achievements as well as the leaders and unsung heroes who work tirelessly to inspire local learners of all ages.
Tonight's lifetime achievement award will be presented to Professor Peter Strike, the Barrow-born scientist who went on to lead his home county's university for five years as vice chancellor before his retirement in July.
The CN Group Education and Learning Awards are once again supported by associate partners Inspira and the University of Cumbria.
Other supporters include Lakes College, BAE, Burnetts, nucleargraduates, Furness College, Riverside and West Cumbria Works.
James Higgins, editor of CN Group's North West Evening Mail in Barrow, said: "With the awards ceremony just hours away, anticipation has started to build. I know we are in for an inspirational night and am really looking forward to welcoming our fantastic finalists.
"Carlisle Racecourse has proven to be a fantastic venue in previous years and I'm sure its staff will deliver once again.
"As ever, these awards wouldn't be possible without our sponsors so I'd like to give them a final thank you for all they do."
The Times & Star is published by Cumbrian Newspapers, part of CN Group.
