PUPILS at Westfield Nursery and Primary School in Workington have presented more than £600 to two charities.

The school has given £234.25 to Autism Support Allerdale and Copeland and £381.65 to West Cumbria Carers.

The school choir performed modern and traditional Christmas songs and carols in Workington, Cockermouth and Keswick and collected money for the autism charity as they went around.

The money for the carers group was raised through ticket sales to the school's two festive productions.

Autism Support Allerdale helps with school, which has pupils with autism, and come of its pupils are supported by West Cumbria Carers so the school wanted to give something back.

Karen Barley, headteacher, said: "I'm incredibly proud of the pupils who have done an amazing job."

The money raised for Autism Support will go towards Easter activities for children and young people with autism.

Shirley Murphy, chairman of Autism Support Allerdale and Copeland, said: "The money will make a big difference to the parents and young people that we support."

West Cumbria Carers will use their money on their young carers project.

Michelle Watson, young carers project manager at West Cumbria Carers, said: "It was a fabulous surprise to find out about the money as we didn't know about it.

"It means we carry on working with young carers in West Cumbria."
