The sound of music is alive and well in a Maryport school thanks to a generous donation from a business in the town.
The Cumberland Building Society has given Ewanrigg Junior School, in Ennerdale Road, £380 to pay for two wireless microphones and a pair of guitars.
The equipment will be used by staff and pupils to learn in class and to add polish to school productions.
Teacher Nigel Hope said the gesture was greatly appreciated as government funding for arts in schools was no longer a priority.
He added: "They're already making a difference and will make our productions even more professional.
"The children will benefit from learning how to use them."
Lewis Benson, manager of the town's Cumberland Building Society branch, added: "The Cumberland is pleased to support the work of educational activities that aim to make a real difference for children in our local communities.
"Local school productions are a great example of these type of activities which provide a fantastic opportunity for school children to take part in something that is not only fun for them, but helps build up their confidence levels in and outside of school."
