£50,000 revamp for park

A DECISION will be made on Tuesday about how a Cockermouth play area will look after a £50,000 upgrade.

Allerdale council has obtained Big Lottery Fund money to install new equipment and upgrade the Memorial Gardens play area.

Three companies have submitted different schemes about how they can improve the area.

Ideas include a new multi-play unit with slides and climbing frames, new swings, a circular see-saw and new roundabouts.

The schemes will see the existing paddling pool filled in and replaced with equipment.

Cockermouth town councillors will meet on Tuesday to decide which scheme is the preferred option.

Town clerk David Bertram said: “It will be more modern equipment.

“The schemes are complete packages which include filling in the existing paddling pool and providing new equipment.”

Once the decision is made by town councillors they will discuss the next stage with Allerdale.

Mr Bertram hoped the play area would be erected this summer.

Allerdale council was awarded £211,000 to spend to improve children’s play areas in the district.
