A COCKERMOUTH play area will undergo a £50,000 revamp, based around the theme of William Wordsworth.
Cockermouth Town Council was awarded £50,000 by the Big Lottery Fund to upgrade the Memorial Gardens play area.
At a council meeting on Tuesday night, councillors were shown three schemes to improve the area.
They chose a design by Nottingham firm Proludic, based on William Wordsworth and his poem Daffodils.
Around the play area will be pictures of daffodils, waves and stars.
There will be play equipment, the existing paddling pool will be filled in, and a climber currently in the play area will stay.
A hopscotch graphic will also be drawn on the ground.
Councillor Alan Kennon said: “The theme is synonymous with Cockermouth. It looks more modern. It is good that there is that bit of colour in the ground and I like the theme, it will get the children asking questions.”
Coun Isabel Burns said: “I have never seen any playground like this before and it will be a good talking point for the children.”
Cockermouth Town Council will finalise details and make any alterations to the scheme before presenting it to Allerdale council.
Town clerk, David Bertram, said that he hoped the play area would be erected this summer.
Other schemes were submitted by Wicksteed Playscapes and Ludus Leisure Limited.
Allerdale council obtained cash from the Big Lottery Fund to spend to improve children’s play areas in the district.
Cockermouth, Flimby, Wigton and Braithwaite each received £50,000 for the upgrades.
