More than 40 people got on stage to entertain the crowds over the day and the winner was named as singer Caroline Fisher, 25, of Low Seaton.

Runner-up was singer Jesse Brown, 11, of Chagford Villas, Maryport, and third place went to another singer, Andrew Renwick, 23, of High Street, Maryport.

Compere David McNeill, of the Times & Star, said: “What a fantastic day and such a wonderful reception from the people of Allerdale and beyond.

“The Times & Star stage was bursting with mainly top-quality talent and was very popular with the capacity crowd.

“Our winner, Caroline, will have a number of further opportunities to perform and we all look forward to next year’s event.”

A Catwalk Challenge was also held during the festival and 12 aspiring models went head-to-head to compete for a chance to go forward to the next stage of the county-wide competition in which the winner is awarded a 12-month modelling contract.

Judges were due to pick two winners from the Workington heat, but said that because the standard was high they were putting four forward.

Melanie Patton, of High Seaton, Richard Nixon, of Carlisle, Julie Armstrong, of Egremont, and Clare Scott, of Cleator, will now go through to the next stage.

David added: “The challenge found some outstanding modelling talent and it was lovely to see everyone working together and being encouraged by a huge crowd.

“Our finalists will represent the Times & Star superbly at the final at Naworth Castle near Brampton in October.”
