Windfall for Workington community centre

A WINDFALL of £65,000 has been confirmed for the Northside Community Centre in Workington.
Funding will come from Derwent & Solway Housing Association, a member of Harvest Housing Group, which has pledged £15,000, and the Coalfields Regeneration Trust which has awarded a grant of nearly £50,000.
Ann Douglas, community centre chairwoman, said that the cash would help to fund the employment of a centre manager to strengthen current activities and develop new services across all age groups.
“It will have the added benefit of increasing the sustainability of Northside Community Centre,” she said.
It will also cover IT and office equipment provision until March 2011.
The Coalfields Regeneration Trust is an independent organisation established in 1999 to help regeneration in former coal mining areas.
