A contraflow on the A66 at Bassenthwaite Lake is expected to be lifted next week, two-and-a-half weeks behind schedule.

The westbound side of the dual carriageway closed at the start of September so new average speed check cameras could be installed and routine maintenance carried out on the rock face above the road.

It was due to take three weeks.

During the work, it was discovered that more work was needed on the rock face and the netting system used to protect road users was redesigned.

The road is now due to reopen next Friday, October 16.

In the meantime, drivers continue to face a 50mph speed limit in both directions through the contraflow.
