Maryport's Senhouse Roman Museum garden has won one of the top awards in this year’s Cumbria in Bloom competition.

The garden was awarded the county chairman’s rose bowl for small industry.

Vanessa O'Donnell, a volunteer, looks after the garden and is inspired by plants the Romans would have used and introduced to this country.

The Love Maryport team entered the town in this year’s competition and won a silver gilt medal, coming second to Silloth in the best coastal resort category.

Maryport's Settlement won an RHS neighbourhood award. 

Maryport’s Ewanrigg and Netherton Tenants' and Residents' Association youth were runners up for the Doreen Parsons young persons’ award, which was won by Wigton Blooming Youth.

Workington was runner-up in the Friends of the Lake District trophy for best sustainable development and Friends of Siddick Ponds, Moorclose Community Growing Garden and Salterbeck Community Growing Garden were awarded level five outstanding awards.  

Friends of Workington Hall Park, South Workington Youth Partnership and Harrington Nature Reserve won level four awards.

St Mary’s Primary School received two runners-up awards in schools’ gardening category for a container garden and the Rex Marsden challenge award for school garden.

North Shore Street and Harrington Youth Club both received certificates for outstanding achievement.

Keswick was named best small town and best overall town and urban community.

Silloth Bee Garden won the continental landscape trophy while the village of Bothel took the Allerdale trophy.
