The remains of a burnt mound and a building have been found at the site of a planned housing development in Cockermouth.
Archaeological work on the site of Story Homes' planned Strawberry Grange development at Strawberry How uncovered the remains.
Extra work is now being done to further understand and record the remains.
This work is expected to be completed by the end of the month and any findings will be passed to Allerdale council's planning department.
A company spokesman said: "The work is only in respect to two small areas and therefore will not delay building work.
"As for the burnt mound and building, we won’t know the full extents until further digging, analysis and recording is complete."
