A dish, fine table and selection of large 19th century gilt mirrors were the top selling lots in Mitchells Antiques and Fine Art sale last week.

The most valuable lot in the Cockermouth sale was an early English Slipware dish circa 1780. It had been expected to make between £1,000 to £1,500 but considerably exceeded its estimate selling for £4,200 to an online bidder from London.

A fine Victorian Gillows of Lancaster kidney shaped marquetry writing table with a tooled leather writing surface, frieze drawer and ormolu mounts sold for £3,800.

Another mahogany Chippendale style desk with a green tooled leather writing surface and kneehole drawer also did well selling for £2,500.

The largest of the mirror lots, a 19th century giltwood and gesso mirror as big as a substantial door, was the most valuable of the mirrors selling for £2,700.

Another large 19th century Florentine giltwood and gesso mirror made £2,500 as did a matching pair of large Rococo style 19th century gilt framed mirrors, which sold for £2,500 for the pair.

Two items of jewellery were also amongst the top 10 lots in this sale. A pair of 18ct rose white and yellow gold dropper earrings set with 2.8 carat diamonds sold for £1,900 and an 18 ct oval blue topaz and round brilliant cut diamond bracelet sold for £1,800.

Mitchells next Antiques and Fine Art Sale will be on Thursday, November 30, and Friday, December 1. The next Sporting Sale will be on Saturday, October 7.
