People in Workington will come together for the town's seventh annual Armed Forces Day parade tomorrow.

A parade will march through town towards Vulcan Park for a drumhead service before heading off to the Royal British Legion Club in the afternoon.

The North Tyneside Pipe Band, military personnel, Workington Royal British Legion members, veterans, members of the army, sea and air cadets, Sir Tony Cunningham, Sue Hayman MP, the Riders Association of the Royal British Legion and the mayors of Allerdale, Workington and Maryport will all be in the parade.

The people participating in the parade will meet outside Sports Direct at 10.45am before heading to Vulcan Park via Finkle Street.

The procession will then head towards the British Legion Club on Jane Street via Oxford Street.

Entertainment will be provided by Carlisle singer Nikki and the D-Day Darlings in the Legion Club and an afternoon tea dance will also take place.

Armed Forces Day is marked across the country on Saturday.

Lesley Jackson, who organises the event with her friend Pat Lavin, said: "We look forward to it every year. The first year we did it Afghanistan was in the news all the time and now the troops are pulling it we don't get the same response.

"People still need to support them. It's a big extended family in the legion."

The following streets will be shut for about ten minutes while the parade passes through:

Finkle Street from 10.50am, Vulcan's Lane from 11am, Oxford Street from 11.10am and Jane Street from 11.40am.

The entertainment will run all afternoon and into the evening and is free for members of the public to attend.

Food will also be provided at the Royal British Legion Club.
