The small boat has been placed on a mound on top of the Glasson roundabout.
Built by students at Lakes College, Lillyhall, it was originally designed to be put in the gap next to the Original Factory Shop on Senhouse Street.
When that property was sold, the town council had to find another place and decided on the roundabout as a welcome to people coming into the town.
The boat was funded as part of Allerdale council’s £10,000 grant, given to several towns in the borough.
It has been erected on the roundabout with permission of the county council.
The boat was “launched” by mayor Linda Radcliffe, who stopped just short of breaking a bottle of champagne over it.
