The world of books was brought to life at The New Bookshop in Cockermouth at an event on Saturday.
They held a party as part of the national campaign Books Are My Bag which celebrates bookshops and authors.
The day featured a children's story time, free bags, books and colouring sheets and Maisy Mouse was also in the store.
Catherine Hetherington, owner, said: "I feel really encouraged by it. This is the third year we've done it and our customers always have a really nice day."
Hundreds of stores across the country take part in the event which also aims to encourage people to use their local bookshops.
Grayson Perry and Lauren Child also designed the bags which were handed out.
Catherine added: "It's also about giving something back and we invite lots of children into the store to do storytime and they just love to sit down in that time.
"It's about getting them to read the right book and choosing something that is right for them."
