People in Workington will be able to get across West Cumbria on Boxing Day thanks to free buses put on by the Workington Transport Heritage Trust.

The organisation will run a 35 service from Workington to Cockermouth which will also call at Seaton, Camerton, Broughton Moor, Great Broughton, Little Broughton.

The 35 buses will leave Workington bus station every two hours between 8.40am and 4.40pm with return journeys departing from Cockermouth Main Street every two hours between 9.45am to 5.45pm.

A 60 service will also run between Workington and Silloth which will serve Maryport, Allonby, Mawbray, Blitterlees and Skinburness.

These buses will leave Workington bus station every two hours between 9.10am and 3.10pm.

Return journeys set off from Eden Street in Silloth every two hours between 10.15am and 4.15pm.

Alistair Grey, trust secretary, said: "Stagecoach are again operating an enhanced Sunday service on Boxing Day, so we have been able to concentrate our efforts on other local routes that won't be served on that day.

"Our heritage buses will each be putting in a 10 hour day on Monday 26th December.

"We know that people appreciate our service as we have recorded hundreds of passenger journeys in recent years."
