Residents of a Workington estate are still waiting for a play area, six months after a developer applied to remove its requirement to build one.

Persimmon Homes was required by planners to build a play park at Forgehill Park off Mossbay Road before completing the estate.

Six months ago, the company asked Allerdale council to remove the planning condition.

Three months later it withdrew the request and has since been in talks with the council to agree a suitable site.

But the Forgehill Play Area Group, which was set up by residents to campaign for the park, is frustrated by the lack of progress.

A spokesman said: “Families were promised a play area and families and children have been failed by Persimmon as a developer and Allerdale as planning authority.

“Children have no place to go that is safe to play. We have waited for years.

“There needs to be a play area on site before the spring. It is time to see practical progress.

“We have had enough of being passed from pillar to post.”

The developer said discussions were still ongoing with the council.

A council spokesman said: “We’re working with the developers and other parties to come to a solution to the issue.”
